COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) -- Ohio State's championship trophy has arrived for its tour of central Ohio, and plans have been made for a Sunday celebration of the Buckeyes. The university announced details on Thursday for its rally at Ohio Stadium. The one-hour event will begin at noon and be free of charge. Coach Ryan Day and several players are among those scheduled to speak at the rally, along with Gov. Mike DeWine, Columbus Mayor Andrew Ginther and Ohio State President Ted Carter. Parking lots around the stadium, Value City Arena and St. John Arena will all open at 8 a.m., and stadium gates will open at 10:30. How much Ohio State’s Ryan Day made for winning national championship The championship trophy made its first public appearances Thursday at a Meijer in Westerville and a Giant Eagle near Grandview Heights. Fans were able to take photos with it. One more public showing is scheduled, for Friday at a Kroger off U.S. 42 in Jerome Township, near Dublin. It'll be on display from 4 to 7 p.m. If you'd like to go, the address for the Kroger is 12116 Sycamore Trace, Plain City. Ohio State seized the trophy on Monday night, winning its first national championship in a decade with a 34-23 victory over Notre Dame in Atlanta. It made the Buckeyes the first champions under the 12-team playoff format, a run that included wins over Tennessee, top-seeded Oregon, and Texas -- the Buckeyes' first opponent next season. The trophy was supposed to go on display Wednesday, but winter weather in the South kept it from getting out of Georgia. When the team traveled home Tuesday, the trophy stayed behind. A College Football Playoff representative told NBC4 that the trophy had scheduled appearances in Atlanta after Ohio State left -- just a few of the over 10 dozen it makes annually -- including one to promote the 2026 championship game near Miami. A ground stop in Atlanta then prevented couriers from departing sooner. The week will culminate with the rally on Sunday. Ohio State said limited concessions will be available inside the stadium. ADA parking will be available in the East Stadium lot, and the West Stadium will have reserved parking. Other lots will be open on a first-come, first-served basis.
