White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt on Wednesday dismissed Elon Musk’s criticism of President Trump’s newly announced artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure project.  “That was a big announcement for our country, for our industries here at home, and also for the American people, because this is going to create a minimum of 100,000 jobs here in the United States of America,” Leavitt told Fox News.  “The American people should take President Trump and those CEOs’ words for it,” she continued. “These investments are coming to our great country, and American jobs are coming along with them.”  The project, called Stargate, aims to invest up to $500 billion in AI infrastructure over the next four years, with OpenAI, Softbank and Oracle as initial equity investors.  However, Musk, a close ally of Trump and a rival of OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, quickly cast doubt on Stargate’s funding after the president announced the project earlier this week. “They don’t actually have the money,” Musk said in a post on his social platform X, responding to OpenAI’s statement on the project.  “SoftBank has well under $10B secured. I have that on good authority,” he added.  While Altman initially responded with praise for the Tesla and SpaceX CEO, he later pushed back on Musk’s assertions.  “[W]rong, as you surely know. want to come visit the first site already under way? this is great for the country. i realize what is great for the country isn’t always what’s optimal for your companies, but in your new role i hope you’ll mostly put [the U.S.] first.”  Altman and Musk have frequently clashed over the past year. The billionaire is suing the OpenAI CEO and his co-founder Greg Brockman, accusing them of straying from the AI firm’s founding mission. Musk, who helped found OpenAI in 2015, has since launched his own AI company, xAI.  Former Trump adviser Steve Bannon, who has also been at odds with Musk in recent weeks, also slammed the tech mogul Wednesday, telling Politico that he “brought in his own personal vendetta.”    “I’ve never seen action like this in my life,” Bannon said, suggesting that White House chief of staff Susie Wiles should “sit him down” and “sort it out immediately,” according to Politico.
