President Trump held his first official call with a foreign leader since being sworn in for his second term with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammad Bin Salman, a controversial figure who Trump on Thursday praised as a "fantastic guy." Trump spoke with the crown prince on Wednesday, according to a readout from the White House. The two discussed security concerns in the Middle East and stabilizing the region, as well as planned investments by Saudi Arabia in the United States. The president, addressing political and business leaders at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, on Thursday, highlighted reports that Saudi Arabia plans to invest at least $600 billion in the U.S. in the coming years. "Ill be asking the crown prince, who’s a fantastic guy, to round it out to around $1 trillion," Trump said. "I think they'll do that, because we've been very good to them." Trump added that he would ask Saudi Arabia and the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) to bring down the cost of oil, suggesting that doing so would bring an end to the war in Ukraine. "If the price came down the Russia-Ukraine war would end immediately," he said. Trump has repeatedly spoken warmly of the Saudi crown prince, and he traveled to the Kingdom in May of 2017, his first year of his first term. Mohammad Bin Salman has faced intense criticism from the U.S. and other world governments and watchdogs for Saudi Arabia's human rights record. The U.S. intelligence community concluded the crown prince approved the 2018 murder of U.S.-based journalist Jamal Khashoggi.
