BOWIE, Md. (DC News Now) -- This brutal winter weather can cause some serious issues to cars as road salt can cause rust frigid temperatures can severely stress out a car's battery.
Mechanics at Bowie Auto Clinic have been working nonstop installing new batteries, changing tires and doing oil changes since the weather got drastically colder in the DMV.
General Manager Shawn Hart said just this week alone he has sold eight batteries.
“I’ve noticed in battery sales this week and it's only Wednesday, and we’ve sold eight batteries. We’ve seen an uptick in phone calls my car won’t start or my car broke down and the other thing is tires. Tire warning lights are coming on so a huge uptick in recent weeks,” Hart said.

According to Bowie Auto Clinic, the frigid cold air can reduce a car battery's ability to generate enough power which can make it harder to start your car in freezing conditions.
Customer Erek Perry took Hart's suggestion and brought his car in to get a new battery.
“I was very concerned about keeping my vehicle functioning during these elements and these conditions so I brought my vehicle in to get my battery checked and replaced the battery. And the vehicle is running great now," he said.
Bowie Auto Clinic recommends getting your battery tested and also checking the alternator.
The business has served 200 customers this week and expects to help more.
