FRESNO COUNTY, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – Local fire crews sent to battle the Palisades and Eaton fires are being rerouted to help extinguish LA County's newest blaze, the Hughes Fire.
On Wednesday, Cal Fire announced the Fresno Kings County Strike Team 9430C was reassigned - mere hours after the Hughes Fire ignited and began threatening thousands of homes.
As of 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Cal Fire reports the Hughes Fire was more than 9,400 acres large and 0% contained. It is burning on the north and eastern edges of Castaic Lake, just north of the City of Santa Clarita, which is roughly 30 miles north of the Palisades Fire and 30 miles northwest of the Eaton Fire.
The cause of the fire has yet to be determined, but as with the Palisades and Eaton fires, the Santa Ana winds are fanning the situation.
