HUTCHINSON, Kan. (KSNW) - A "lucky" dog is now safe after being found chained with his mouth taped shut. Officials with the Redemption Animal Rescue in Hutchinson say the dog is doing OK. The nonprofit is fostering the dog, renamed Lucky, after being rescued. Those with the nonprofit say they were made aware of Lucky's situation through social media. Melissa Gutierrez, who is part of a team that runs the nonprofit, says animal cruelty happens every day. It's just not reported. Trafficking survivors are healed and restored at Wichita nonprofit Gutierrez says social media has made it easier to document animal abuse. She says there's a lot of interest in adopting Lucky. "We have a little bit more behavioral testing to do with him and just want to let him kind of decompress with everything that he's been through and learn a little bit more about him before we make him available for adoption," said Melissa Gutierrez with the Redemption Animal Rescue. Gutierrez says Lucky does not like to be outside as much now. Lucky has a bit of scarring on his nose because of the tape. He is neutered, though, and has all his vaccinations. The nonprofit plans to send applications to adopt Lucky in the coming weeks.
