PRINCETON — Blake Hargrove scored 27 points, Luke Wafle 15, and Seth Clarke added 14 as Hun School boys basketball team surprised visiting powerhouse Blair Academy, 79-73.
Hargrove scored an early-game layup for his 1,000th career point that sent Hun off and gunning for a major upset over their MAPL rival Buccaneers (13-3).
Hun School Coach John Stone described an ultimate team effort that stunned a Blair Academy squad packed with blue chip caliber players, including Boston College bound Jack Bailey.
“Our team played with a lot of energy, played together, and made the plays. I’m really proud of them because they went out and seized the game,” Stone praised.
“We had great play from a lot of different people. Every player contributed a shot there, grabbed a rebound, or made a defensive play that led to our victory. We had tremendous balance in this complete team effort.”
Hun (6-7) won its third straight as the Raiders inside enforcers Wafle and Clarke held the 6-11 Bailey (12 points) scoreless in the first quarter.
“Those two guys, man, I wouldn’t trade them for anything. They’re just so strong and hard to handle,” Stone said.
“It’s good to be home playing this game. You always get up for a game against Blair. You know our guys are going to give their best effort. We’ve played Blair tough over the past several years but ended up on the losing end. It’s great to get this one.”
Jaen Chatman had 22 points to lead Buccaneers players.
