Associate Professor Matthew Lakin and Professor Vanessa Svihla were awarded The Presidential Early Career Award For Scientists And Engineers (PECASE). The awards were given out by former President Joe Biden. Lakin was recognized for his work on bio-medical devices and Svihla for framing agency in the classroom by allowing students to pose and study open-ended questions in the engineering field.
“Science and engineering is changing so fast that we all need to be able to do that, I think, throughout our lives,” said Lakin
“Fail early and often and joyfully and keep trying because the world needs your ideas and your creativity and contribution,” said Svihla
The National Science Foundation nominated both of them. A celebration with the foundation is set for later this year.
