NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — The frigid weather persists tonight, with temperatures dropping to the mid-teens across much of the region. A Cold Weather Advisory remains in effect until 10 a.m. Thursday, urging residents to take precautions against the dangerously low temperatures. While winds will remain calm, the extreme cold still poses risks to people, pets, plants, and exposed pipes. Conditions on the roads are particularly hazardous. Snow that melted during the day will refreeze tonight, creating widespread icy patches. Ice can be difficult to see, making driving especially treacherous. Authorities strongly recommend staying off the roads tonight and early Thursday morning. Despite the cold start, Thursday will bring some relief. Sunshine is expected, and temperatures will climb above freezing by mid-morning, eventually reaching the low 40s by the afternoon. This warm-up will help melt any lingering snow and ice. Overnight temperatures Thursday and Friday will still be cold, dipping into the 20s, but not as extreme as earlier in the week. As the weekend approaches, temperatures will continue to rise, reaching the low 50s on Saturday and the 60s by Sunday.
