HONOLULU (KHON2) -- Honolulu Ocean Safety is gearing up for its first recruit tryouts of 2025, seeking part-time, on-call contract beach lifeguards. The tryouts will take place on Friday, January 31, and Saturday, February 1, at Ala Moana Beach Park, Ewa end, starting at 8:00 a.m. on both days. The physical performance exam is a challenging test of endurance, featuring three key events that must be completed within the specified time limits: 1,000 Yard Run and 1,000 Yard Swim: Must be completed in under 25 minutes Run-Swim-Run: 100 yards each way, to be finished in under 3 minutes 400 Yard Rescue Board Paddle: Must be completed in under 4 minutes Kilauea eruption paused, but likely to begin again Before taking the physical exam, all applicants must pre-register. Registration will be held at the Ala Moana Beach Park Ocean Safety Training Center, located behind lifeguard tower 1B, from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. on January 24 and 25. For those who pass the physical test, interviews will be held on February 4, 2025, at which applicants must be present to qualify.
