EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — The El Paso Fire Department mitigated an active hazmat incident on Wednesday afternoon, Jan. 22, in South El Paso. Photos by Anthony Pina - KTSM The Fire Department said crews responded to reports of an ammonia leak on Jan. 22, at the 1000 block of E. Fourth Avenue, which is near Guillen Middle School. The hazmat situation was labeled as condition three, which means it was active. Crews were able to locate the leaks, mitigate the situation, and remove any hazards, the Fire Department said. There is no longer a threat in the building affected by the leak and surrounding areas, the Fire Department added. The Fire Department said the source may have had something to do with a fire that happened a month ago.
