(FREMONT COUNTY, Colo.) — A recently released map of wolf activity has indicated that one wolf is exploring as far south as Fremont County near Cañon City.
Following their reintroduction over the past year, 29 gray wolves are now in Colorado. According to Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW), that number can fluctuate at any time if other wolves migrate to Colorado from other states.

The wolves were released north and south of I-70, though CPW said the wolves are expected to explore their new environment and travel expansively. One such wolf, a female, has been found exploring in a Fremont County watershed, well south of I-70.

"In order for any watershed to indicate wolf activity, at least one GPS point from at least one of the wolf collars was recorded within the boundaries of the watershed within the last 30 days," CPW said.
The agency added that even though wolf activity has been recorded in a particular watershed, it does not mean that wolves are present in the entire watershed or even if they are currently there.
