CHESTER CO., S.C. – The former Chester County Sheriff and one of his lieutenants convicted of corruption have been released from custody. WCCB has confirmed with federal authorities that ex-Sheriff Alex Underwood and Johnny Neal were released last week. The two were convicted of using their jobs to make money and then obstructing investigations into what they were doing. Underwood and Neal were sentenced to nearly 4 years in prison in the summer of 2022. They served a little more than half that behind bars. Underwood also spent time in a federally-run halfway house.
