Bills Mafia plans to bring 'Mr. Brightside' song to Kansas City

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) -- The Killers' hit song "Mr. Brightside" has been echoing through the stands at every Bills home game hyping up both fans and players. Now, Bills Mafia is trying to take this new anthem all the way to Kansas City for Sunday's Bills vs. Chiefs matchup.
The goal for Sunday is to establish a time and strategy for the thousands of Bills fans to sing "Mr. Brightside" at Arrowhead Stadium.
Fans have been singing the "Shout" song at Highmark Stadium for decades, but since the start of this season, a new tradition has taken over.
For the players, the connection with the song runs even deeper. It all started this summer when Bills tight end Dawson Knox got married and a video of some team members singing along to the song at his wedding went viral.
"Let me tell you, when that song came on, it was the highlight of our reception," Knox said. "We got some great videos, great memories from it. So, that was my favorite song of the night."
Ever since the wedding in June, the new anthem stuck, being played at every home game in the third or fourth quarter.
In order to advance to the Super Bowl this year, the Bills will have to win a playoff game on the road, something they haven't been able to accomplish in 32 years.
Crystal Vermette, a Rochester resident and longtime member of Bills Mafia, believes she has a way to help the team do just that.
"I just kept thinking more about how awesome it would be if all of the fans got together over by the Bills side and somehow figured out how to play 'Mr. Brightside,'" Vermette said.
Vermette decided to take matters into her own hands, commenting the idea on several different Bills Facebook groups and creating a Facebook event page to start coordinating.
"I've had ideas from other people, so we're going to take those ideas and put them into there," Vermette said. "Hopefully get people to start communicating more, really starting to coordinate this."
Vermette, alongside thousands of other fans, have been able to experience "Mr. Brightside" playing in the stadium multiple times. She said it's a feeling like no other and she wants to show Kansas City just how much pride Buffalo fans have for their team.
"We're more than just Bills fans. You become a family," Vermette said. "We are the Bills Mafia. We are family to them, they are family to us. It just really solidifies and pulls us all together at once."
