Man arrested, accused of crashing car into home causing fire in Baton Rouge

BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) — A Baton Rouge man was arrested after a car crash led to a house fire.
According to the fire department, Darnell Augillard, 47, was arrested and booked in the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on charges of negligent arson.
On Jan. 18, firefighters responded to a vehicle fire in the 1400 block of S. Sherwood Forest Drive. A vehicle crashed into a home, which caused a fire that spread to the attic. The driver reportedly fled the scene.
On Jan. 22, investigators interviewed Augillard, who admitted to driving the vehicle. He told investigators he passed out at the wheel due to a medical condition and fled the scene after a ruptured gas line caught on fire, according to a release.
A bond amount has not yet been set, according to jail records.
