BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) -- Firefighters with the Kern County Fire Department rescued a person who was performing maintenance on top of an elevator 20 feet above ground level. Kern and Los Angeles county emergency responders were dispatched to the facility near Gorman for reports of an elevator entrapment around 6:08 p.m. on Tuesday. A person who was performing maintenance on the elevator was unable to rescue themselves due to shoulder and head injuries that were sustained while performing maintenance, according to the Kern County Fire Department. Fire crews assisted in disassembling of the metal siding around the elevator shaft. The patient was then secured in a stokes basket and safely moved and lowered from the top of the elevator. The patient was taken to a hospital for treatment via helicopter.
