Cade Cunningham scored 29 points and Malik Beasley added 19 off the bench as the Detroit Pistons beat the Atlanta Hawks 114-104 Wednesday night at State Farm Arena. The Hawks were 6-of-38 on three-point shot attempts tonight and that told a majority of the tale. Notably, Bogdan Bogdanović was 0-for-9 from the field and missed all four three point attempts. De’Andre Hunter was 2-for-14 from the field as well as 0-for-9 from downtown. “I think that we just can’t let our shooting affect how we play, especially how we defend,” said Hawks forward Vít Krejčí. I think that we shared the ball well, we weren’t able to knock down shots. So I think the problem wasn’t the offense. I think we shared the ball well, we just didn’t knock down shots. [Also] I think the problem was that it affected our defense, and we stopped rebounding, and they got a lot of second shots.”Another point is because of the weather, the Hawks were not able to have their morning shootaround at their facility. However, when confronted with those facts, the team did not let that be an excuse.“I don’t want to put it on the weather, so to speak,” said Atlanta Hawks head coach Quin Snyder. “We prepared, we went through our preparation, and we weren’t focused like we needed to be. From a defensive standpoint, early in the game, particularly our transition defense, there were just a lot of run outs where we weren’t communicating and then not being able to make a shot.”Cunningham has the full arsenal to his game. He can get to the paint, hit the midrange, and shoot the three. He can get to his spots on the floor and defenders cannot speed him up. Currently, Cunningham is averaging 24.9 points per game, 6.5 rebounds per game and 9.4 assists. It’s clear under new coach J.B. Bickerstaff, Cade Cunningham’s game has turned the corner.“He’s a super smart guy,” Hawks swingman Dyson Daniels said of Cunningham. “Plays at his own pace. And, you know, he’s got guys setting really good screens for him. You know, Jalen Duren and Isaiah Stewart, those two big guys had really good screens for him. And he’s able to get downhill, get to his floater, his mid range, and he’s got size so you can shoot over guys like me that are my size.”The Hawks don’t have much time as they must flush this performance and get ready for the Toronto Raptors. In a scheduling quirk, Atlanta will face Toronto twice: Thursday night and Saturday night. The post Cade Cunningham, Detroit Pistons roll past the Atlanta Hawks 114-104 appeared first on The Atlanta Voice.
