A Cherriots bus hit a pedestrian early Wednesday afternoon at the intersection of Northeast Union and High streets.  Salem police posted to social media around 2 p.m. that the collision was fatal and there is an ongoing traffic fatality investigation. The pedestrian has not yet been identified by police. Northeast High Street is closed until further notice between Northeast Division and Marion Streets, the post said. Northeast Union Street will also be closed until further notice between Northeast Liberty and Church Streets.  The crash was initially reported by police on social media around 1:20 p.m. This is the Salem area’s second fatal crash of 2025, according to coverage by Salem Reporter.
