SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) -- This week, the timeless stories of Aladdin, Cinderella, Moana and more will be presented during Disney On Ice at Pechanga Arena, and a skater from Chula Vista will be among those bringing the magical adventures to life.
Azul Diaz, 19, graduated from Chula Vista High School and picked up ice skating at the age of 9 after seeing the shows as a child.
"I watch the show every year, so to now perform in it is surreal," said Diaz.

After undergoing years of training and competing, Diaz decided to audition for Disney On Ice as a performer. Now, she is part of the ensemble cast for the West Coast tour of "Disney On Ice presents Magic in the Stars" and an understudy for the characters Mirabel and Isabel Madrigal from the segment based on the 2021 Disney animated musical film "Encanto."
Diaz, who used to be in the School of Creative and Performing Arts at Chula Vista High, said she still uses many of the pre-show rituals she learned during her time there as a student performer before going on the ice.
"The best part for me is one, getting to see the different cities, but my favorite part is being able to see the smiles on the little kids' faces that used to be me," said Diaz. "And to be able to see that in this my hometown this week, it's going to be so amazing. I'm so excited."
According to Diaz, aside from "Encanto," "Disney On Ice presents Magic in the Stars" includes 11 other segments based on different beloved stories. The show will be the official debut of the 2019 Disney story "Frozen 2" on ice, plus adventures from "Raya and the Last Dragon" (2021) and "Wish" (2023).
Tickets to "Disney On Ice presents Magic in the Stars" are still available online. Shows take place Thursday through Sunday with varied times.
