SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - Cold temperatures across western Massachusetts can pose threats to the unhoused population. "We also have blankets, gloves, hats and scarves to give to individuals that are out in the cold weather," said Helen Caulton-Harris, Commissioner of the Department of Health and Human Services. "And we are grateful to the community for volunteering to donate those items."The department also has the ability to place individuals in local hotels to ensure they keep warm.
