BRYAN COUNTY, Ga. (WSAV) - Fire and emergency management officials in Bryan County received typical calls Tuesday night, despite the winter storm causing hazards on roads. Newly hired EMA Director Alli Padgett says residents listened to their warnings to stay home and stay warm. Many people were seen outside playing in the snow, rather than braving slushy conditions on the roads. Bryan County is one of many in the area that is under a state of emergency; their emergency operations center also active. Officials say their main worry right now is the snow melting and refreezing to cause black ice. "So the potential for black ice is significant, and everything is refreezing that could make a thicker layer. Travel is going to be just as bad tomorrow, if not a little worse, which is why everyone is taking precautions and making sure if you can't stay home, stay home." Bryan County has crews out slowly clearing the roads. Richmond Hill officials have closed the viaduct bridge on Highway 17.
