ROSWELL, N.M. (KRQE) – The Roswell Police Department said a crash involving a police officer and a civilian resulted in the civilian's death. It happened just before 10 a.m. on Wednesday when the officer was responding to a crash in downtown Roswell. Remains of teenage New Mexico soldier killed during Korean War identified RPD said 66-year-old Howard Charles Peterson was driving an Oldsmobile on North Main Street when he tried to make a left turn across southbound lanes. RPD said the officer had his emergency lights and siren on when the two vehicles impacted. Peterson died at the hospital while the officer received treatment and will recover. The crash is under investigation.
