ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – The man behind a road rage shooting near a state police officer on a busy Albuquerque road has avoided prison time. Paul Marquez was seen driving recklessly on Paseo del Norte last May when police said he fired three shots at another vehicle. Marquez initially claimed the other driver cut him off but police dashcam video showed that was not true.

He later pled guilty to one count of shooting at a motor vehicle. Marquez faced up to five years behind bars under the plea deal, but Judge David Murphy deferred his sentence and referred him to Young Adult Court. Marquez also expressed remorse for what happened. Prosecutors said the victim wanted Marquez to be reformed, not sent to prison.
