BOSTON (WPRI) — A new U.S. attorney has been selected for the District of Massachusetts.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Leah Belaire Foley was appointed to the position on Monday by acting Attorney General James McHenry.
Foley succeeds former U.S. Attorney Joshua Levy, who stepped down earlier this month. She was sworn in Tuesday by U.S. District Court Judge Nathaniel Gorton.
"I can think of no greater mission than that of public service and it is the honor of a lifetime to now serve in the capacity of U.S. Attorney," she said. "I am profoundly humbled by the opportunity to serve our great nation as the chief federal law enforcement officer in Massachusetts."

Foley previously served as assistant U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia before taking on that role in Massachusetts in 2006. She has been a federal prosecutor for more than two decades.
Foley earned a Masters of Laws from Georgetown University Law Center and a Juris Doctor from Loyola Law School.
Her appointment can last for up to 120 days. After that, Foley would need to be nominated by President Donald Trump and then confirmed by the U.S. Senate.
