Jan 22, 2025
SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) -- On Thursday, representatives from the state, Minnehaha County and the city of Sioux Falls will gather for the Regional Homelessness Forum. The goal is to find ways to work together.
At this time last year, there were 610 people experiencing homelessness in Sioux Falls. This year that number is likely higher and we will know for sure in a couple of weeks.Tomorrow government leaders will gather at the Orpheum theater in downtown Sioux Falls.
"This event will include a panel discussion with Sioux Falls Mayor Paul TenHaken, Minnehaha County Commissioner Dean Karsky, Secretary Matt Althoff with the Department of Social Services and the Executive Director of Sioux Falls Housing Larissa Deedrich, said Michelle Treasure.

The Sioux Falls Homelessness Services Coordinator says they realize the challenge isn't limited to Sioux Falls so they are taking a more regional approach at the forum. Treasure says everyone has an opportunity to be a part of solutions.
"Which is why are really encouraging the public to attend and learn more. This is something new that we are trying so we are really looking forward to this conversation and hope to have possibly some of these events in the future," said Treasure. Those taking part will share insights, possible solutions and ways to work together to tackle a problem they know will not be solved independently. The forum starts at 5:30 p.m. Thursday at the Orpheum Theater downtown and is free and open for the public to attend.
