SHELBY COUNTY, Ind. -- An Indianapolis man was taken to the hospital after being extricated from a van after a Wednesday morning crash on I-74. According to a news release from the Shelby County Sheriff's Department, units from the Shelby County Sheriff's Department, the Shelby County Fire Department, the Waldron Volunteer Fire Department and the Indiana State Police responded to a personal injury crash involving two vehicles around 8:21 a.m. Wednesday. The crash, which occurred on the eastbound side of I-74 near the 118-mile marker, involved a 2015 Freightliner box truck driven by a 26-year-old man from Missouri and a 2016 GMC full-size van, driven by a 58-year-old man from Indianapolis. After a preliminary investigation, officials said in the release that the van reportedly rear-ended the box truck, causing the driver of the van to be trapped inside the vehicle. The driver of the box truck was looked at on scene. This incident caused this portion of the interstate to be closed until around 10:54 a.m. on Wednesday, according to the release.
