Water main breaks have been a recent issue in Lake County cities due to the extreme cold temps. In Willowick, Mayor Michael Vanni said the city has experienced a number of water main breaks on Dickerson Road dating back to 2022. Public Service Director Todd Shannon has since reached out to the county to make them aware of the breaks. “They grade (smooth out) the water lines like we do with the streets, so similar to what ODOT does when we grade other streets for repairs,” Vanni said. “It’s up there, but it’s not bad enough. I’m going to make sure I keep them aware of what’s going on because we had three this past weekend, so we are working on it.” The city’s water department has also been made aware of the water main breaks. “Hopefully what happened this week might move it up a little bit but right now, nothing’s imminent,” Vanni said. “We’re probably about two years out before we replace that water line. That could change hopefully.” Meanwhile, there was a significant water main break in Willoughby near SOM Center Road and Ridge Road recently where residents, as well as businesses in the area, were affected for a few hours. The break also resulted in a loss of water for some residents in Wickliffe, according to Mayor Joe Sakacs. Crews have since worked on the break to resolve it. According to Lake County, water service has been restored to most of the impacted areas in Willoughby. A small portion is still impacted as the water repair is still being completed. Low pressure is still also a possibility for the entire initial area, but will also be restored as the water repair is completed. The water service interruption additionally impacted customers in the area from Route 20 south to Interstate 90 west of Route 91 to the Cuyahoga County line. “We will continue to update the public on the status of this emergency water repair,” a Lake County Facebook post reads. “We apologize for this inconvenience, but please know we are working hard to remedy the issue.”
