‘Evacuations imminent’ as fire erupts in Rancho Bernardo

Crews were fighting a brush fire that was threatening structures in Rancho Bernardo on Wednesday morning, and evacuations are imminent, according to San Diego Fire-Rescue officials.
The fire started shortly before 9 a.m. in the area of Bernardo Center Drive and Camino del Norte, the agency said. It has the potential to reach 100 acres.
One person was taken to a hospital to be treated for burn injures, fire officials posted on X.
Evacuations have been ordered for neighborhoods just west of Interstate 15 and south of Camino de Norte. The evacuation area stretches west to Peñasquitos Drive and Dove Canyon Drive, . Areas just to the west of that are under an evacuation warning.
According to scanner traffic, schools in the area have been ordered to shelter in place.
Nearly five dozen firefighters were part of the initial response, which also included three helicopters.
