WASHINGTON (DC News Now) -- It's been nearly a week since a pickup truck drove off the Arlington Memorial Bridge and plunged into the Potomac River during a crash. In an update on Jan. 22, the United States Park Police (USPP) told DC News Now that the two victims were identified as Jerod and Jerel Wert. They were both 52 years old and from Chesapeake Beach, Maryland. The incident happened on the evening of Jan. 16, when the pickup truck was involved in a collision with another vehicle. During the impact, the truck swerved, went through the bridge's concert railing and fell into the icy Potomac River. Several first responders including the DC Fire and EMS Department and D.C. police were called to the scene. Dive teams searched for the truck and its occupants. He was taken to the hospital where he died. On Friday afternoon, dive teams returned to the Arlington Memorial Bridge and removed the second man from the truck in the river. He was pronounced dead there. This is a developing story.
