Fire crews respond to brush fire in Rancho Bernardo

SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) -- Fire crews are responding to an active brush fire burning in Rancho Bernardo Wednesday morning.
According to San Diego Fire-Rescue, the department received the initial call around 8:55 a.m. The first unit of firefighters arrived shortly after 9 a.m., SDFD said on its website. As of 9:51 a.m., it is burning three-to-five acres with a moderate rate of spread.
What has been dubbed the "Center Fire" is located in the area of Bernardo Center Drive and Camino Del Norte, near Interstate 15, according to reports.
Apartments and homes along Avenida De Los Lobos were told to evacuate around 9:50 a.m., according to authorities. A temporary evacuation center has been set up at 12080 Carmel Mountain Rd.

The Poway Unified School District texted parents around 9:44 a.m., saying no schools are currently being evacuated.
Authorities say there is an immediate structure threat due to the fire. SDFD posted an update on X/Twitter, saying there is potential for the fire to grow to 100 acres. One person has been taken to the hospital with burn injuries, per authorities.
