NEW MEXICO (KRQE) – The world’s largest integrated quantum computing company announced plans to expand into New Mexico.
Quantinuum's new location will be a research and development hub aimed at advancing photonics technologies. The company is headquartered in Broomfield, Colorado. "I am thrilled to welcome Quantinuum to New Mexico, launching a new industry for our state that builds on our proud foundation of innovation,” said New Mexico Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham in a news release.
New Mexico To Become Quantum Computer Workforce Hub
The governor made the announcement about the expansion during her State of the State address Tuesday, which two of Quantinuum's corporate leaders attended.
“As the established leader in quantum computing, Quantinuum has found an ideal partner in New Mexico. The state’s dynamic technology ecosystem and highly skilled workforce align perfectly with our strategic goals," Dr. Rajeeb Hazra, president and CEO of Quantinuum, stated in a news release.
Officials did not say where the center will be built, but said it is planned to open later this year and is expected to bring in high-paying jobs and drive economic growth. The company has collaborated with experts from Sandia National Laboratories, Los Alamos National Laboratory and the University of New Mexico.
Is Albuquerque the next great quantum technology ecosystem?
In July 2024, the U.S. Department of Commerce’s Economic Development Administration, as part of its Tech Hubs program, officially designated Colorado and New Mexico as leading hubs for quantum information technology.
