Lujan Grisham outlines goals for 2025 legislative session - New Mexico governor Michelle Lujan Grisham is sharing what she hopes to accomplish during this year's legislative session. She called for officials to fix problems with the New Mexico Children, Youth & Families Department. Gov. [2] Albuquerque man sentenced to life in prison for murdering his ex-girlfriend - In October a jury convicted 21-year-old Jonathan Martinez of murdering Yasmin Marquez in 2022. Martinez was connected to the murder using text messages the victim received the day she went missing. Judge David Murphy sentenced Martinez to life in prison plus six years. [3] Bitter mornings but milder days ahead - Wednesday will bring warmer weather across the state, but with a breezy northwest wind. A backdoor cold front will move in by Wednesday night, bringing another cool down for Thursday. A warming trend begins again on Friday and will continue into the weekend, with both warmer high and low temperatures. Highs will be back up to around average for late January by Saturday. [4] Albuquerque Community Safety steps up efforts to shelter homeless in extreme cold - With temperatures reaching below freezing, ACS says they're stepping up efforts to keep the homeless warm. ACS deputy director Walter Adams says they took 46 people into shelters on Monday night, more than double their nightly average. In November, the agency relaunched an overnight shelter transportation service to get people into shelters during the extreme cold. [5] Albuquerque Public Schools honoring four employees - The Albuquerque Public School district is recognizing four outstanding employees. APS says they have many dedicated professionals who devote their time to helping the district meet students needs. The four employees honored will have their photos displayed on billboards across Albuquerque.
