Jan 22, 2025
RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- Richmond Mayor Danny Avula will participate in the January 2025 Point in Time survey process to count the number of people experiencing homelessness in the greater Richmond area.
The survey, which is being held on Wednesday, Jan. 22, is a periodic count of people who are experiencing homelessness conducted by the Greater Richmond Continuum of Care, a regional network of 34 non-profit organizations that provide homeless services.
According to data from the January 2024 survey, 681 people were documented as experiencing homelessness, which is in-line with the previous year's count, according to Homeward, a non-profit organization.
Homeward’s report provides a snapshot of the situation across the greater Richmond area, which encompasses Chesterfield, Hanover, Henrico, Goochland, Charles City, New Kent and Powhatan counties.
"Mayor Avula will release additional details on his plans to promote affordable housing across all income levels in the coming weeks," said the Office of Mayor Avula.
