Kyle Rittenhouse to visit University of Memphis again
Jan 22, 2025
MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- Controversial guest speaker Kyle Rittenhouse is scheduled to visit the University of Memphis campus next month, nearly a year after his last event at the university ended in him being rushed off the stage.
The University of Memphis campus organization Turning Point USA will once again host Rittenhouse, who plans to speak on the Second Amendment and his views on gun violence. The event is scheduled for February 26 at 7 p.m. and 8:30 p.m., according to TigerZone.
Rittenhouse was acquitted of killing two men and wounding another during a Black Lives Matter rally in Wisconsin in 2020 when he was 17 years old.
In March 2024, his appearance on the University of Memphis campus stirred controversy throughout the community, with some Memphians claiming his presence made them feel "uneasy."
The UC Theatre was filled with 50-75 people, most of whom were protestors. Rittenhouse was rushed off the stage after only 30 minutes as the crowd booed him, yelled, and disrupted him.
Hundreds more protestors were outside the venue.

When WREG reached out to TPUSA national headquarters last year, they said, “Attempts to cancel or censor events like these only serve to stifle the exchange of ideas and limit the intellectual diversity to which students are exposed.”
The University of Memphis said in a statement to WREG, "The speaker has been invited by a registered student organization. This event is not sponsored by the University of Memphis."
