GASTON COUNTY, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) -- A 30-year-old man wanted for assault on three officers was arrested after being found hiding in a hotel room in Charlotte, according to the Gaston County Police Department. On Thursday, Jan. 16, officers saw 30-year-old Johntavius Jaquine Ellington sitting in a vehicle in a Walmart parking lot in Belmont. At the time, Ellington was wanted for multiple drug trafficking felonies, officials said. When officers attempted to arrest Ellington he immediately fled, using his vehicle as a weapon to "violently ram" into several other vehicles in his way, including a police vehicle with blue lights on. Police say officers pursued Ellington on I-85 into Charlotte before he crashed into a ravine on S. Hoskins Road in Charlotte. Ellington fled on food and law enforcement agencies began tracking him. Unfortunately, tracking stopped after GCPD K9 'Rocky' got hurt after stepping on broken glass in the ravine. Officials say he is now home resting with his handler and no other injuries to officers or citizens were reported. According to arrest records, Ellington was booked into the Gaston County Jail around 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 21. He's being held on a $150,000 bond for charges including assault with a deadly weapon against three GCPD officers, felony flee to elude arrest, trafficking methamphetamine, and trafficking cocaine. He was reportedly found hiding in a Charlotte hotel room and was arrested without incident.
