More extreme cold expected in Baton Rouge this week after inches of snow

BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) -- The Greater Baton Rouge area got snow totals averaging 8 to 10 inches Tuesday, according to preliminary data.
Updates are expected from the National Weather Service office in New Orleans.
State and local leaders are still telling people to stay off the roads after the snowfall. Some roads are still closed. Click here to see the latest road closures.
Because of the winter weather conditions, schools in the Baton Rouge area have announced Thursday school closures.

Freezing temperatures in Baton Rouge this week 🥶
Baton Rouge reached a low temperature of 14 degrees early Tuesday morning. The record low was 9 degrees on Jan. 21, 1985. Baton Rouge reached that temperature this morning. The old record low temperature for Jan. 22 was 19 degrees in 1935.
Morning lows plummeted into the single digits for some places in our viewing area. New Roads had a low temperature of 4 degrees!

It was extremely cold across the Baton Rouge area earlier this morning. Skies will be mostly sunny and highs will be in the 30s. Not much snow will melt today since highs will barely climb above freezing. Any little amount that does melt will freeze again during the overnight hours.
A cold weather advisory will be in effect from 6 p.m. tonight to 9 a.m. Thursday.
Overnight lows will be in the teens. Bundle up in multiple layers if you have to travel to work overnight or early Thursday morning.

Thursday and Friday weather: What to expect ⛅
Thursday will start very chilly as overnight lows will drop into the teens. A few places in the area will drop into the single digits again.
There will be sunshine and a few clouds on Thursday. Highs will be in the mid-40s. The snow will melt some during the day, but it will freeze again overnight into Friday morning as low temperatures once again fall below freezing.
Morning lows will be in the 20s on Friday. Afternoon highs will be near 50 degrees. Temperatures will steadily warm up over the weekend and into next week.
