CHARLOTTE, N.C.– A disturbing new study shows 1 in 12 children have been exposed to online sexual abuse. That’s according to researchers at Georgia State University. They looked at data from more than 120 students between 2010 and 2023. They then analyzed the number of children younger than 18-years-old, who were exposed to a range of subtypes of sexual abuse. The study’s lead author says the results highlight the need for increased awareness and advancements in digital technology to prevent online sexual abuse.
