Willoughby Hills officials have recently had several meetings with the engineers hired to investigate the city’s proposed multi-use path project. Additionally, the city is currently looking at partnering with local businesses to provide easements that would position the path to pass through Roemisch Field, 35400 Chardon Road, and loop back into the Lake Metroparks with a potential offshoot toward Campbell Park, 35405 Chardon Road. “The engineers have been really great,” said Mayor Chris Hallum. “They engaged the parks, which is very exciting thinking about the potential of connecting the two parks, as well as all the way points that we are talking about doing now.” Hallum said there is still a long way to go in this proposed project as there are multiple potential grants the city can use to accomplish some of it. “Sections of this may not be available for grants because the area we are talking about would go behind businesses and would not be on public land,” Hallum said. “These would not apply to that section, but that is a small area comparatively.” The path would go down to the Metroparks and the Metroparks would cover their section from Mayfield Village up to Strawberry Lane, Hallum said. Then the path would continue down to the Huntington Bank, go behind the buildings next to the senior apartments and potentially part of St. Noel Church, located at 35200 Chardon Road. “St. Noel wanted me to talk to them about potentially using a portion of that so we don’t have to tear down trees around the church,” Hallum said, noting that using a portion of their lot area that is not used by them that much could be a possibility. The path would then continue on to Roemisch Field, run behind the Willoughby Hills Community Center, 35400 Chardon Road, and continue toward the park at Buttermilk Falls. Willoughby Hills’ proposed multi-use path project is intended to connect those traversing the city to the Community Center. (Marah Morrison — The News-Herald) “This will potentially continue to Manakiki (Golf Course, 35501 Eddy Road),” Hallum said. “We would really be making a nice connection for people who want to walk, run, hike or bike through our city. Until we figure out what will be covered by grants versus what the city would have to fund, we really do not know where that’s going to go. We might need to do this in separate parts to accomplish the end goal.” The city is also looking into putting up some exercise stations near the senior apartments that the residents would be able to use, Hallum said. “This would be safe for seniors to use and might also enable us to have some programs to learn how to use that equipment,” he said. “Perhaps there could also be some exercise classes as well.”
