Fresno's airport breaks passenger record: Here's why it could drive down costs

FRESNO, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) — Fresno Yosemite International Airport has reached new heights, reporting its largest annual record of passengers served in 2024 - while a win for the airport, this achievement could also benefit future passengers.
FAT says they served over 2.6 million passengers last year, a more than 9% increase compared to 2023.

Airport staff say international passenger volumes also experienced a substantial surge in growth; 2,672,881 passengers were served in 2024, a 10% increase compared to the 2,449,418 passengers in 2023.
These numbers could drive down future prices for FAT flyers. The more passengers FAT attracts, the greater the demand for airlines. As more airlines get on board, competition grows and fares are lowered. These developments could also prompt the airport to increase destination choices, something that is already happening.
The first non-stop flights to Guadalajara took off in December, and the airport introduced daily nonstop flights to Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport in June. They also launched new Saturday nonstop service to Dallas Love Field last spring and increased frequency to Las Vegas on Southwest Airlines by 25%.
