TULARE, Calif. (KSEE) - This week's story takes us to Sundale, where Emilee Martin is helping her peers celebrate another year of knowledge with a birthday candle, showing everybody a lesson in leadership and kindness. Martin, a seventh-grader, leads her school's birthday program by creating and delivering customized birthday bundles for her classmates. But for Martin, it's about more than balloons and cards.  “It's a great feeling because you get to know what's coming and get to surprise them, make them have a smile on their face as well," she said. Martin understands a birthday is about more than growing older -it's about growing wiser. Her teachers say her dedication to the birthday program and everything she does at school is inspiring. “ If you see Charlotte Fisher from Ms. Tyler's class, make sure to wish her a happy birthday," said Martin when doing the school news. “ She really stepped in and graciously, just selfishly, really took it upon herself to show me how to lead, show her peers how to lead, and it was just really awesome to see," said Brittany Grieb, a teacher at the school. The birthday program is also a fundraiser. Proceeds go into events like school dances and rallies -another area where Martin shines. “I really love to plan events for the students. It just makes them happy," she said. Like a candle on a cake, Martin brings light to her school, showing that simple acts of kindness on a single day can spark joy that lasts all year.
