ALAMEDA COUNTY, Calif. (KRON) -- Alameda County supervisors are zeroing in on a choice for a new district attorney.  That decision lies with them following November's successful recall of Pamela Price. The Alameda County Board of Supervisors has narrowed the field of candidates for district attorney to seven. "I'm so blessed that I've had this job and opportunity to serve this community," said Alameda County prosecutor Elgin Lowe. "I want to continue to do so, because it's not just my job, it's my life." San Francisco sues Trump over birthright citizenship "We will build community trust with engagement and with complete transparency," said Alameda City Attorney Yibin Shen. At a public hearing on Tuesday, they heard from all of them. "I will never ever act political or do something politically because it's advantageous to me," said Alameda County prosecutor Jimmie Wilson. "We need to rebuild the victim witness program," said Alameda County Superior Court Judge Ursula Jones Dickson. "I've had some conversations with people in the community about the fact that victims just don't feel heard and they know that they're not receiving the services that they deserve." "We must tackle the backlog of cases that have been ignored for too long, and we must address the crime that is harming our businesses and communities," said L.D. Louis Alameda Deputy Counsel. All but one are former prosecutors from the Alameda County DA’s office, of those two of them, Elgin Lowe and Jimmie Wilson continue to work in the office. Others have moved on. Ursula Jones Dickson is an Alameda County Superior Court Judge. Venus Johnson is a deputy attorney general. Annie Esposito is a prosecutor with the Contra Costa District Attorney's office. L.D. Louis is deputy county counsel for Alameda County. Yibin Shen who has not worked as an Alameda County prosecutor is currently the city attorney for the city of Alameda. "My philosophy is to persevere, strive for excellence and fairness and maintain your compassion," said Assistant District Attorney Annie Esposito. "My vision for this office is to reinvigorate and to unify," said Chief Deputy Attorney General Venus Johnson. "We will return to being a model for the state, except we will turn the page to the future." Prior to the meeting, the group that spearheaded the successful recall of DA Pamela Price held a news conference to remind supervisors to keep politics out of the decision-making and focus on what’s needed. Two Walgreens stores set to close in Oakland "We don't need a DA, that's going to be an advocate. We need a DA, that's going to be well-rounded," said Brenda Grisham of Save Alameda for Everyone (SAFE). "We need to put the voice of victims first, before the criminal," said Edward Escobar of the Coalition for Community Engagement. The recall group has endorsed two of the seven finalists, Esposito and Dickson. The board will make its decision at next Tuesday’s meeting and the new DA will serve through 2026.
