(KRON) -- The Sonoma County Sheriff's Office arrested a man who it believes attempted to steal a plane from the county airport in October, the sheriff's office announced Tuesday.
On the morning of Oct. 13, deputies were dispatched to the airport for the report of a man trying to steal planes.
SCSO said a mechanic was working on a private plane when a man opened the plane's door. The mechanic told him to leave, and the suspect ran towards an area with multiple private planes.

The man entered one plane, started the ignition and turned on several lights, officials said. The mechanic chased him out of the plane, and the suspect ran into the woods.
A search involving a drone, K-9 and helicopter did not locate the suspect, but community members provided tips that pointed to 29-year-old Augustin Ortiz as the suspect.

Ortiz was arrested by Santa Rosa police on Jan. 12. He was booked into jail for taking an aircraft without consent and trespassing in an "airport posted area."
