WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — The projects around Riverfront Stadium — now Equity Bank Park — stalled during COVID. Now, they're back on track. City officials and the Wind Surge are looking forward to what new developments will mean for the stadium and its surroundings. "We're really excited to have them on board, and we're really excited to rebrand the stadium to Equity Bank Park," Wichita Wind Surge General Manager Matt Hamilton said. The deal to change the stadium's name comes with a $2 million investment through 2039. A variety of projects, like new apartments, a hotel, and a parking garage, are all in the works. "If you look at any development project around the county. If you look at what the Rangers did with Texas Live, you look at what the Phillys have done with Xfinity Live, you look at what the Cubs have done with WrigleyVille," Hamilton said. Wichita’s Riverfront Stadium gets a new name City Councilmember Dalton Glasscock represents the district in which Delano falls. A resident of the area, he's aiming to increase foot traffic with new amenities outside of baseball. "The success of the park is the success of the community right now. And we want to make sure we're investing in the asset. I drove by last week and noticed the fences were up, hopefully for the development projects coming forward," Glasscock said. "Delano is, I think, one of the most unique parts of our community and I'm excited for what's to come." He and Hamilton want to draw in more than fans. They want anybody looking for a central entertainment hub. "Today is historical. And we're going to enjoy the moment, but we're not going to rest on those laurels as we continue to try to shed nothing but positive light on Wichita," Hamilton said. KSN also reached out to EPC Real Estate, the construction company heading up construction, about timeline specifics. They didn't get back. The new name, along with the groundbreaking of some of the other projects, will officially go into effect with the first pitch of the baseball season, starting in April.
