Another very cold night is on the way for New Mexico, but not quite as cold as this morning. Cold nights will continue, but a general warming trend will last through the weekend. It was one of the coldest mornings in years across New Mexico Tuesday. Many areas in the northern half of the state broke record low temperatures. While temperatures have warmed up this afternoon, highs are still well below average for most of the state. There has been a significant warmup though across northeastern New Mexico though, with temperatures 35°+ in some areas. It will be another very cold night across New Mexico, but not as cold as this morning. Low temperatures will fall into the teens, single-digits, and below zero with wind chills as low as -9°. Wednesday will bring warmer weather across the state, but with a breezy northwest wind. A backdoor cold front will move in by Wednesday night, bringing another cool down for Thursday. A warming trend begins again on Friday and will continue into the weekend, with both warmer high and low temperatures. Highs will be back up to around average for late January by Saturday. Our next winter storm will likely move into New Mexico early next week. There is still a lot of uncertainty with this storm, but right now it's looking like it should bring back snow to western New Mexico and the wester, northern, and central mountain ranges. The bigger question will be the timing of the snow and if we'll see snow in the lower elevations, including in the Albuquerque Metro.
