Sandia High School football coach steps down

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – After over 20 years of coaching, Chad Adcox is leaving the sidelines. The now former Sandia football coach said the decision was due to the time and effort it takes to also serve as the school's athletic director.
"I just kind of came to the conclusion that I can't give the (football players) the effort that they deserve," Adcox said. "If I'm going to be the AD, I get pulled away a lot for meetings and different things. I feel like it's time for me to step away and let them have a coach who can fulfill that duty and be there all the time like they're supposed to."
Adcox has spent the last six years, including the shortened COVID season, as the Sandia football coach. During that span, the Matadors had a record of 26-29.
Prior to his time at Sandia, Adcox began as an assistant at Manzano in 2003. He took over as head coach of the Monarchs in 2012. All-time, his teams had a combined record of 71-53.
As Sandia's athletic director, Adcox is already in search of his replacement for the football team. He said he has a few people in mind for who he wishes to take over the program. There is currently no timetable for when the team's next head coach will be hired.
