Menifee police have arrested a man who they say fatally struck a pedestrian with his car and fled.
Miguel Angel Castillo, 28, of Menifee was arrested at 4:41 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 19, on Wilkes Drive, more than nine hours after 53-year-old Lucia Delgado of San Bernardino was found dead in a dirt field near McCall Boulevard and Aspel Road, east of the 215 Freeway, police said Tuesday.
Delgado had at some point left Menifee Global Medical Center, said Chase Coburn, a police spokeswoman. Coburn said she didn’t know whether Delgado had been discharged or had left the hospital on her own. A message was left with the hospital seeking comment.
Police said they believe Delgado was in the westbound lanes of McCall when a car traveling in the same direction hit her. Officers found her body about 7 a.m.
Then at about 3:20 p.m., investigators found a grey Honda Pilot with collision damage that they believe was involved in the collision. There, they spoke with Castillo, who had been identified as “a person of interest,” a news release said.
Castillo was booked into Cois M. Byrd Detention Center in French Valley on suspicion of hit-and-run causing death. Castillo was released Monday after posting $75,000 bail.
Police ask anyone with information on the case to call 951-746-8829.
