PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — Some Providence parents are upset after their children had to wait an extra hour in the cold for their school bus to arrive.  "They really dropped the ball," said Skye Alviti.  Her daughter was one of seven middle school students left waiting in the frigid cold Tuesday morning. The Pinpoint Weather Team says temperatures in Providence were as low as 6 degrees Fahrenheit that morning, but the wind chill made it feel like -5.  "I had a short-sleeved shirt along with a T-shirt, a hoodie and then this jacket on. I had two pairs of gloves, a hat and two pairs of pants on," said Destiny Viau, Alviti's daughter. "Everything was still numb."  Alviti was at work tracking the bus on her app when she noticed it was 20 minutes late.  She called the bus company, First Student, and was told that the bus would be there in a minute. Alviti said she called back again after another 20 minutes passed and the bus still wasn't there.  "The woman I spoke to that time told me that the bus had broken down and they were sending another bus, and it would be there in 20 minutes," Alviti said. "That's an hour after the bus was supposed to pick them up. That's just not acceptable." A spokesperson with Providence Public Schools told 12 News the district was aware of the delays, and messages were sent to parents.  However, Alviti says the messages came too late. She wants the school and bus company to do better when it comes to notifying parents.  "There's no reason that it took so long to let us know what was going on," she explained. "There's only so many kids on the bus to have someone make phone calls, get the information to the parents, so that we can make the best decisions for our kids."  The school district says it has reached out to the bus company to express concerns about the delays.  12 News also reached out to First Student, but have not heard back.
