NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — Two people were taken to the hospital for smoke inhalation following a two-alarm fire in the Ocean View area of Norfolk Tuesday, Norfolk Fire-Rescue said.
The call for the fire came in around 8:45 p.m. for what turned into a two-alarm fire in the 9500 block of 1st View Street.

When crews arrived around 8:48 p.m., they observed smoke and flames from a two-story home, and they used multiple hand lines, along with aerial master streams to control the fire and protect exposures.
Norfolk Fire-Rescue Battalion Chief Jarrod Sergi said the fire did not spread beyond the one structure, but some electrical lines did get burned and fell to the ground. He said the snowy conditions made putting out the fire a challenge.
"Everything's iced over, the lines are freezing, everything on the ladder is freezing," said Norfolk Fire-Rescue Battalion Chief Jarrod Sergi. "It does make it a little bit more difficult, kind of slows things down a little bit, so it's one of those times where we have to call in extra crews out early to get 'em here as quickly as possible."
The fire was declared under control at 8:53 p.m. and is still under investigation.
The Red Cross has been contacted to provide assistance.
