NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — The case of a man charged in a Ghent murder last July will go to a Norfolk grand jury.
Vandes Jackson, 57, who faces second-degree murder and gun charges in the death of Bradley Kortbawi, waived his preliminary hearing Tuesday afternoon.

According to police, it happened in the early morning hours of July 6 on Core Avenue just a few blocks from 21st Street.
A friend of Kortbawi told WAVY shortly after his death that she saw it happen, and Kortbawi was shot in the head at point blank range. The friend said Jackson confronted Kortbawi because Jackson thought they were using racial slang.
Jackson's case will likely go before the next grand jury Feb. 5. If convicted, Jackson could face from five to 40 years in prison.
