CSPD introduces new body worn cameras and upgrades
Jan 21, 2025
(COLORADO SPRINGS) — The Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) said new body-worn cameras introduced on Tuesday, Jan. 21 will increase efficiency within the department.
According to CSPD, the new body-worn camera system comes from Axon Enterprise and will include:
Axon Body 4 body-worn cameras
A new digital evidence system
Livestream capabilities for body-worn cameras, fleet vehicle cameras, and drones
Automated transcription of body-worn camera footage and other video and audio evidence
Artificial intelligence-powered report writing assistance by Axon Draft One
The new system will reduce administrative work and increase the time officers can respond to calls for service and address community concerns, according to CSPD. The new AI-assisted report writing tool, which CSPD said takes body-worn camera and interview footage and generates a draft police report narrative has shown a substantial reduction in report prep time.
"The new system is designed to significantly improve officer efficiency, enhance body-worn camera video and audio quality, and usher CSPD into the artificial intelligence (AI) era," writes CSPD.
